Item Analysis

Overview

Item Analysis drills past the score to the question. For a given assessment, it shows how a class or grade performed item by item and standard by standard, so reteaching can target the specific standards students missed instead of a hunch.

Where It Lives

  • The Item Analysis list shows the analyses available for a district, school, or teacher, ordered most recent first.
  • When your district uses assessment definitions, you can narrow the list by year and by assessment definition. The assessment options follow the order set on the Assessment Definitions page.
  • Opening an analysis shows its breakdown by standard.
  • Use the search box to find a specific analysis.

How To Use It

  1. Open Item Analysis for the district, school, or teacher you are reviewing.
  2. Filter to the year and assessment you care about.
  3. Open an analysis to see performance broken out by standard.
  4. Use the standard-level view to decide where to focus reteaching.

What Data Feeds It

Item Analysis is fed by the item analysis files you upload alongside your assessment exports:

  • For Mastery Connect, these are the district, school, and teacher item analysis files described in Uploading Your Mastery Connect Assessment Files.
  • Each analysis ties to the assessment definition it was given under, which is how the year and assessment filters work.

Because it depends on those files, an assessment only has item analysis if its item analysis files were uploaded and processed.

Common Questions

  • Why is there no item analysis for an assessment? The item analysis files for that assessment were not uploaded or have not processed yet.
  • The teacher file did not match. Teacher item analysis files must name the teacher of record exactly as your SIS lists them. See the Mastery Connect upload doc.
